How a simple shift in habits turned into lasting change—plus our favorite nourishing soup

There are moments in life when change doesn’t feel like effort… it feels like alignment.

Last month, we shared an update on our journey following a parasite cleanse along with a heavy metal, gallbladder, and liver detox. At the time, we were hopeful. Curious. Committed.

Now, we can say something more powerful: it has truly changed our lives.

Since January 15th—the day before we began—we haven’t had coffee. Not because we’re forcing discipline, but because the desire simply isn’t there anymore. That alone felt like a shift. But what followed has been even more telling.

We recently returned from vacation, the kind of setting where indulgence is almost expected. And yet… something was different. There was no pull toward overeating. Alcohol consumption was the lowest it has ever been on a trip like that. Instead, we found ourselves naturally gravitating toward fresh, nourishing foods—beautiful fish, vibrant vegetables, meals that left us feeling energized rather than depleted.

It didn’t feel like restriction. It felt like clarity.

Our entire approach to food has evolved. What once may have felt like a “diet” now feels like a reset—a sustainable change in how we nourish our bodies. Personally, I’m down 20 pounds since January 16th, but more importantly, it hasn’t come with the weight of dieting. No counting, no extremes. Just consistency, awareness, and better choices.

One of the simplest shifts that made the biggest impact?

Soup.

It sounds almost too simple—but incorporating soups into our weekly meal prep has been a game changer. They’re easy, nourishing, and incredibly versatile. They’ve taken the guesswork out of meals and made it effortless to stay on track.

This month, we wanted to share one of our absolute favorites—Dr. James’ go-to: a rich, comforting Curried Sweet Potato Soup. It’s warm, slightly sweet, deeply spiced, and incredibly satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 4 teaspoons coconut oil
  • ½ yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 3 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 large sweet potato, peeled and cubed
  • ¼ cup pitted Medjool dates
  • 1 teaspoon agave nectar
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat coconut oil over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft and fragrant.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Add vegetable broth, sweet potato chunks, and dates.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the sweet potatoes are tender.
  6. Add agave, curry, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  7. Once fully cooked, blend until smooth and creamy.
  8. Let cool slightly to your desired temperature before serving.

Optional Add-Ons

  • Add ground turkey or pork for extra protein
  • Top with ½ an avocado and a pinch of sea salt for healthy fats

More Than Food—It’s a New Rhythm

What we’ve realized through this process is that change doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. It can be subtle. Supportive. Even enjoyable.

We’re eating less meat than we used to, but more intentionally. We’re cooking more, but with less stress. We’re fueling our bodies in a way that feels sustainable—not forced.

And maybe that’s the biggest takeaway:

    This isn’t about perfection.
It’s about creating a rhythm your body actually wants to follow.

A reset that becomes your new normal.
