Self Care for Moms by Brittnnee Cabrera – Lander Chiropractic Patient Ambassador

If you’re a mom, I can guarantee you have felt overwhelmed, exhausted and stressed at least once since becoming a mom.  Motherhood has been the most amazing and rewarding thing I have ever accomplished in my life, but it has also been one of the most difficult things I have ever done.  That’s why it is so important to set some “me time” aside and practice self care.

Why is self care so important as a mom?  It helps you relax, re-energize and lift your spirits.  Self care should be something that brings you joy, but doesn’t feel like additional work.  It looks different for every mom and that’s okay!  For one mom, exercising might be the boost she needs.  For another mom, plopping down and reading a good book could be the most peaceful part of her day.  For me, taking an uninterrupted shower or doing my skin care routine is pure bliss.

Now you ask, when exactly do I fit this “me time” in?!  The answer is whenever you can!  Before I became a mother everyone always told me to sleep when the baby sleeps.  Well, I didn’t listen to that advice.  I am able to practice my self care while my baby is sleeping.  Sometimes that means during nap time and other times that means staying up a little later and I’m okay with that.  The key is to scheduling your self care into your day and striving to be consistent with this.  There are no rules as to when you take care of you, just as long as you do it.
